Zikhona Nyumka, a third year Journalism and Media Studies student from Rhodes University, shares insights on internal conflict and ways of dealing with it in her personal blog Conflict with thyself.

I am a silent contradiction. A ruminative recluse that is always absorbed by a trail of thoughts. When I am in this state, I try to discern my past from my present; for I feel that I am living my yesterday in the now. It is something that manifests itself in my subconscious almost every day. Preventing the birth of the new me to prevail because it keeps on reminding me that I have no place in the now and that the world could never be my oyster; as proclaimed by those who felt that my unique mental and physical qualities or attributes defied the norms. Their words left me with scars of self-loathing, self- doubt and anxiety. However, I keep fighting by redefining who they said I was.

Conflict of thyself is not just a tell-all blog, but it is a reflection of my inner conflict and a song of hope to those who want to emancipate themselves from mental slavery.
